The second round of Covid Stimulus vaccines is being offered to those at higher risk of developing the disease as of Monday. Spring incentives will be given to elderly residents of nursing homes, older than 75 years and people older than 12 years with suppressed immune systems.
Letters will also be sent to parents of five to 11-year-olds offering them the first dose of the vaccine. Many of the oldest adults will have received their latest dose in September or October last year, and there are indications that the level of immunity will decrease over time. The Scottish Minister of Health, Humza Yousaf, has urged everyone entitled to the vaccine to accept the offer. He said: "We know that those in priority groups are at greater risk of serious illness caused by Covid-19, so I welcome the start of preparations that will provide further dose for these people.
"Vaccination has been our most effective tool against the coronavirus. However, the protection offered over time decreases and therefore a booster vaccine is needed to maintain the best protection against COVID-19 for those most at risk of severe virus exposure. "The additional stimulant dose will significantly improve your level of protection and is the best way to protect your health and those around you."
